Kerkennah Islands: History, Nature, Fishing, and Peaceful Mediterranean Beauty
Kerkennah is a quiet archipelago off Tunisia’s east coast, in the Gulf of Gabès. Flat and surrounded by shallow, clear waters, the islands are home to about 15,000 people.
Daily life here follows the rhythm of the sea, with traditional fishing methods like the "charfia" still in use. Palm trees, calm beaches, and local charm make it a peaceful retreat from the mainland.
Historically, Kerkennah held strategic value for the Romans, who called it Cercina. It also hosted a Christian bishopric in late antiquity.
Today, the archipelago offers a unique blend of heritage and simplicity. Whether exploring the shallow turquoise waters, observing traditional fishing techniques, or enjoying sunsets over the sea, Kerkennah invites you to slow down and reconnect with nature.
